Privacy Policy

The short version
Griddle has no accounts and no user database. Your streaks, statistics, board progress and preferences are stored in your browser, on your device, and are never sent to us. The only third parties involved are Google’s advertising and analytics services, and what they receive depends on the consent choice you make.
What is stored on your device
- In-progress board state and timer for today’s puzzles, so you can close the tab.
- Your completed results: puzzle number, time, mistakes, hints and the local date.
- Per-game streaks, your Perfect Day meta-streak, and the date of any streak repair.
- Aggregate statistics: games played, best and average times, solve-time distribution.
- Your settings: assists, palette, patterns, sound, motion.
- The identifiers of the last 300 Unlimited puzzles served, so none repeat.
All of this lives in your browser’s local storage. Clearing site data erases it, and we cannot recover it because we never had it. You can export it to a file from the stats page and import it on another device.
Advertising
Griddle is funded by display advertising served by Google AdSense. Depending on your consent choice and your region, Google and its partners may set cookies or use similar technologies to measure ad performance and, if you have agreed, to personalise the ads you see. If you decline, you will still see ads, but non-personalised ones.
In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, a Google-certified consent management platform (TCF 2.2) gates personalised advertising and records your choice. You can change it at any time using the “Privacy settings” link in the footer. Residents of US states with applicable privacy laws can use the same control to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information. Declining sets Google’s advertising consent signals - ad storage, ad user data and ad personalisation - to denied, which is what stops personalised ads and the sharing that goes with them. Those signals start denied before the page loads and are only raised if you agree.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 to count how many people play, which games they play, and where they arrive from. Analytics storage is set to denied by default and only enabled if you consent. We do not collect advertising identifiers beyond what the consent state permits, and we never send your puzzle results, streaks or statistics to any server.
Children
Griddle is intended for a general audience aged 13 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes
If this policy changes materially we will update the date above and, where the change affects consent, ask again.
Who is responsible for your data
Griddle is run by an independent developer based in India, in a personal capacity, and that person is the one responsible for the decisions this policy describes. There is no company, no data team and nobody else with access - largely because there is nothing to have access to: your results and streaks never leave your device.
Under India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, and under the GDPR and UK GDPR where they apply, you have rights to reach whoever holds your data. The honest position here is that almost none of it is held: there is no account, no profile and no server-side record of your play, so there is usually nothing to hand over or erase that clearing your browser data would not erase more completely. Ask anyway if you want it confirmed.
